Older games rarely disclose AI because generative AI tools were not common when they were made, and because the disclosure only became part of Steam’s submission process in January 2024.
Methodology
- Sample: 812 games, mostly taken from Steam’s most played, top selling, popular new releases and popular upcoming lists, plus games checked by visitors. It represents popular games, not the whole Steam catalog.
- Source: the “AI Generated Content Disclosure” section on each game’s Steam store page, written by the developer. Categories are assigned from keywords in that text.
- Limits: disclosures are self-reported. Since January 2026 Valve only requires disclosure of AI content that ships with the game or appears in marketing, not behind-the-scenes tools such as coding assistants. See Steam AI disclosure policy.
- Freshness: each game is re-checked at most once a week when visited. Data as of 2026-10-27.
