How to filter AI games on Steam
Steam does not have a store filter for AI-generated content. Here is what you can do instead, from quickest to most thorough.
1. Read the AI disclosure on the store page
Since January 2024 Valve has asked developers to disclose AI-generated content when they submit a game. If a game uses AI, its store page has a section called AI Generated Content Disclosure, usually below the game description. It contains the developer’s own explanation, for example “AI-generated voiceovers” or “some textures were created with AI tools”.
To skip the scrolling, paste the game name or link into the Steam AI Filter checker.
2. Scan your wishlist before a sale
Checking games one by one gets slow if you have a long wishlist. The wishlist scanner reads your public Steam wishlist and checks every game’s disclosure at once. Your wishlist must be public: Steam → Profile → Edit Profile → Privacy Settings → Game details = Public.
3. Use community tools while browsing
Community projects have started to surface the disclosure while you browse. SteamDB lets you filter by it, and browser extensions can hide or label disclosed games on the Steam store. These run on third-party data, so check that a tool is actively maintained before relying on it.
4. Know the limits
- Disclosures are self-reported by developers. No disclosure is a signal, not a guarantee.
- “Pre-generated” means AI was used while making the game; “live-generated” means AI creates content while you play. Many players only mind one of the two, so read the disclosure text, not just the label.
- Developers can add or update a disclosure after release, so recheck games you care about.
